We started posting information about this event last October. Here is the link if you want to see it or how things have changed from the WIP/Alpha testing to Beta. There were not a lot of changes but every change was to decrease the rewards.
This event mechanic is now so well known that it hardly seems worth discussing so we won't and we'll go right to strategy.
Before the event starts you need to decide which strategy you will choose. Do you want to open all the boxes when completing a town or festival or whatever they're calling it this time OR do you want to complete as many tasks as possible and go for gold league?
If you want to advance the prize line and go for gold league then be prepared to complete 23-28 festivals (I will probably call it towns a number of times and won't bother changing it.)
You should also be prepared to spend a lot of diamonds as this has historically been a high spending event. So buy extra event currency, hire lv5 managers, set timers and sweat out the next three weeks going for gold.
We do not endorse this strategy at all Look at the rewards and decide for yourself what is good. We have them ranked here and in the master spreadsheet.
In our view the rewards are.....fine. Not good, not garbage just ok. Anything under a 40 on the value table would be ok but next up to be replaced. Even the gold league building is underwhelming and made worse by making fragments for a main building that's just OK and not worth chasing. What do we recommend? Well if your city population can handle it I'd say get one (and only one) ascended fortunate celtic goldsmith and three lv 2 McDough's Loaf House. Play the event casually. Don't spend any diamonds. Don't set alarms. Don't wake up in the middle of the night to complete your town to start the next. Let other people sweat out the event.
This event should be a mix of open all boxes six times and picking your spots to advance the prize line so I'd suggest this.
Open all boxes after the tutorial town and the next four towns. Just put your managers on lv1 and let it take 3 days to complete. Then on day 13 you'll have five Loaf House and only need one more which you will get on the last day of the event. Now you can play the last week of the event knowing you only need enough event currency for that last box.
Why aren't we high on the main event building? For people that are hardcore GbG players they will like the main building and really like this event. We value niche fight bonuses less than just general bonuses. So giving someone red GE attack or blue GbG attack has less value than just a boost to red or blue attack that can be applied in every mechanic outside QI.
The druid temple upgrades with all due respect to the people who really need a tiny blue QI fight boost is just garbage. Players will be far better-off getting the side building and ascending them. Speaking of which the store is really where this event is worth playing even if only casually. In the store you can get some side building upgrades and hero fragments if you need them. You can also get some platinum upgrades of other buildings which are far better than the druid temple. I'd be very surprised if the druid temples aren't given a boost before it goes to live server.

This building averages 3 fragments a day.
You need 11.11111 per day to have an ascended fortunate goldmith perpetually.
So in order to have one perpetually you will need three level 2 McDough's Loaf Houses and hit it with BG a few times or get four of them which seems the most logical as you probably have better things to use BG charges on.
Also the population cost may prevent players from placing it at all.
