FoE forums

We were sent some copy/paste items from the FoE forums.  We don't use the forums or the discord so this was new to us.  Essentially the person who wrote to us was asking if the FoE team was lying to them on the forums.

The above is the official statement for the person who was at the time the go to community manager.

The below was a response to that.

None of us will be heading over to the official forums to partake in this controversy.  I believe you have to register to participate and we favor anonymity so people can just be honest.

But we did respond to this back in April of last year.

Here is what it looks like on the alpha/test/development/prototype server.

And another look.

So here's what's happening.  FoE wants to unveil information on their own timetable.  Having a pesky site like this one that may reveal things being worked on but may never come to live server is not what they want.  They also have deals with content creators to collab on announcements.  You have probably seen, "This video was made in conjunction with Inno Games" on some youtube videos.  You are watching paid content.  Consider that when evaluating the merit of the content.  The content creators have a vested interest in perpetuating the lie or discrediting non-official sources and apparently that was happening on certain YouTuber discord channel.  None of us have discord so couldn't see it.

Before FoE addicts existed a player named Crash Cart had a blog.  It was good, we used it as a reference in our guild.  Had a great how to play FoE guide and how to get advanced age troops guide that was easy to use.  She shut her blog down because it was getting too time consuming and a little weird.  People in other servers and other guilds would track her down to ask advice.

Back then two of us thought it would be a good idea to start our own site and asked if we could use her previous content.  She agreed provided we never monetize the content.  It should always be free of ads and available to anyone without paywall, subscription, sign-ins, patron whatever.  We agreed and thus foe addicts was born with her previous content and our new content.

We say all that because part of the FoE forums controversy started with Crash Cart's site and then carried on to this one.

FoE was developing a game mechanic called, "Guild Raids".  She posted about it as it was being developed and how it was changing.  Some of that ended up on the forums and FoE was big mad about it.  She was getting hounded to remove the stuff on the forums.  She didn't even have a forum account as it was readers posting not her.  She refused to remove her posts because they were accurate and she was not under any embargo.  That played a role in her deleting her blog but it was more of a time issue than anything.  So when we got all the old content we posted it here and you can still find it.

The early concept of Guild Raids was sidelined and repurposed for what will be Guild Conquest.  Quantum incursions came out instead of Guild Raids but you can still see the remnants of the old code in some of the names to this day in QI.

This is a long way of saying that the game changes a lot from concept to testing, development testing, alpha testing, prototype testing or whatever you want to call it before it goes to beta.  It's refined in beta and then released to live server.  Sometimes those changes leave it unrecognizable like Guild Raids to QI.  Sometimes it's just minor tweaks.

Yes the forums lied or at a minimum "mislead" the players who used the forums.  The people saying the lies were probably themselves mislead.  I would be surprised if the screen shot posted above isn't removed or the player that posted it banned.  If that happens dear reader please send us those screen shots and we'll update this post with it.

If people here use the forums and have an interesting experience to share feel free to do so.
