So some quick background.
For those not familiar with the planned "Guild Conquest" mechanic that was supposed to be introduced in Q3 2025 and you can read about it here and here. That game mechanic was "paused" until at least 2027 for good reason and we should all be thankful for that. The problem is Inno wanted to make GB's great again and a large part of how that was going to happen involved the introduction of Guild Conquests and GB's that provided bonus or effects for that mechanic.
The GB's and reward/quest system of the new age also relied on the GB update to be in place at launch so that was delayed as well.
Guild Conquest -- GB update -- New age mismanagement are all linked.
So once Guild Conquest was officially taken off the table the GB upgrade was going to proceed.
You can read about what it was going to be here. The reason we don't have it is because of the huge backlash from the community. That backlash stemmed from how they planned to handle the bronze/tier one level of the new tier system.
This has been well discussed on this blog so the condensed version is the community didn't like how they were going to "condense" existing GB's into tier one with a max level of 100. The upgrades themselves and everything else was fine and the fix was simple. For every 5 levels above 100 of an existing GB credit 1 silver level. Simple, easy sure there will still be backlash if the ratio was 10 to 1 but 5 to 1 you'll get grumblings but not a revolt.
Instead of making that simple fix they pulled the entire upgrade, tier and refining system and kicked the can to 2026.
Well we don't have an official date for the announcement so we can't talk about the new progression system and boosts when new tiers are unlocked until the embargo is lifted. What we can say is the backend code for all the GB's have already been changed. The ability to add more tiers is already there. The values are placeholder values for now but we're seeing progress.
Our advice to all players has not changed since last August. Do not build new GB's until you know what the changes will be. Obviously if you don't already have an Arc, BG, SASH and SAT GB's then build them. Don't level any GB past 100. Take spots in other people's GB's with your city collection when possible. It's better to bank those FP than to lose them by upgrading your own GB's.
The two things yet to be decided (or are at least unknown to us) is how they will convert (condense) existing GB's into Tier 1 because it looks like they're locked into having all tiers capped at lv100. And what resources will be needed to upgrade tiers and levels of those tiers. BP, medals, coin, supply and goods of a GB age are still all in play.
Requiring bronze age goods to level a Tier 2 Zeus is ridiculous in our view. To open a new tier sure but for each level would be nuts. So it will probably happen. Start trading down now and maybe in five or ten years you'll have a decent stock of bronze age goods.
So hang in there friends and fellow forgers. The update is coming. Eventually. Aaaaany day now Inno. Whenever you have time in your busy schedule.

ReplyDeleteI cannot come up with a compelling argument against donkey balls so I submit in this debate.
ReplyDeleteI commented previously about thinking it was reasonable for same age goods to unlock new tiers of lower age GBs like Zeus and reading your points in this post, I think I see my limits of my understanding. While trading down for advanced age players will likely be an issue, it would give players that choose to camp in earlier ages a competitive advantage. I don't think it's possible to make an update that benefits all players without introducing other issues like power creep so I still think this difficulty is a net positive. Plus I'm hoping Inno implements an idea I've read elsewhere and think would be great, which is a goods GB that works like alcatraz and would make goods buildings from any era relevant to modern gameplay. Time will tell. Even if the roll out does not land perfectly, I hope they iterate and improve it.
ReplyDeleteI think the idea of a Traz type of GB that works in conjunction with a goods building is fantastic. Even without the GB changes it would be really useful to get targeted guild goods. It would also allow guilds the flexibility to accept players from all ages or negate the need to ask people to age up to certain ages due to guild good reasons.
